Year of the Puppet

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and Multi-Age Year of the Puppet   Students were treated to a multimedia puppet show performance of Pinocchio.  Kindergarten and Multi-age students then participated in a theater workshop with the actors.  1st graders also enjoyed their own puppet-making workshop.  2nd graders created African animal masks, and put on a story-telling-through-movement performance using those masks.

3rd Grade  
Poetry Residency working with photos to create poems which were bound and printed.

4th Grade
African drumming and student performance.

Grades K-4
Performance by national recognized Figures of Speech Theatre.

5th Grade
Day of the Dead Celebration.  A mini cultural festival to mark The Day of the Dead (“El Dia de los Muertos), a traditional Hispanic holiday when the living happily remember their ancestors and joyously celebrate the continuity of life.

5th 8th Grades
Print Making.  Each quarter throughout the year, students learn a different printmaking process.  Artist Ingrid Ellison introduced the students to ‘gelatin’ prints using Knox gelatin and printer ink.  The prints were mounted on cards and allowed students to create words or phrases that were then displayed at CMCA in Rockport and at the Middle School.

6th Grade
Diablo Rojo Mural.  Students created three large panels to depict the ‘diablo rojo’ buses found in Panama City.  Painted on canvas, the completed murals will be displayed in Senora Moody’s classroom.  Students worked with artist Ingrid Ellison.

9th  12 Grades
Students participated in multiple art workshops including specific art media related to their art curriculum, Spanish Dance, History of Photography, and Advanced Print making. Youth Arts also supported the production of Phantom of the Opera in the fall, bringing in professional artists to teach the students costume design, hair & make-up and scenery work.

FCS students worked with a professional chef to learn sushi making techniques.  Harbor School students participated in an African drumming residency, and Youth Arts supported the Spring Choral Concert accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

Students worked together to create a 20 foot-long Mosaic Mural that now graces the Camden Rockport Middle School Cafeteria.  Inspired by the artwork of Eric Hopkins, the mural involved the effort of over 200 students and artistic volunteers Lana Arau, Michele Orne, Ingrid Ellison, Jenn Iott, and Susan Taylor.

9th – 12th Grade
Architectural Renderings. Life Skills Bracelets. Hair & Makeup. Costume making. Art Class Workshops. Dance Workshops. Permanent Outdoor Sculpture. Faux Painting Workshop. Sponsor "Then & Now" Photography Project.

Each child made a fish that become part of a permanent kinetic sculpture hanging in the entryway of the new elementary school.  Click here to learn more.

Horizons Math - Discovery of the math involved with pin hole cameras.

9th – 12th Grades
Exploration of the art of hair, make-up and costume making.

Art classes were treated to a variety of mediums this year including printmaking, drawing and ceramics.

5th Grade
Discovers their surroundings through digital photography Experiences colonial times through embroidery.

6th Grade
Creates a permanent mural depicting life of a 6th grader.

7th Grade
Worked with instrument maker to make xylophones to be used in the music department.

8th Grade
Had a fiction writing residency with a local author.

9th – 12th Grades
Created beautiful scenery for the annual musical Experienced various dancing styles throughout the school year.
